Creating a Photojournal

*I want to start by saying that you DO NOT HAVE to be a professional photographer OR have expensive gear to make a photojournal.* What is a photojournal? It is a form of journaling that uses pictures to tell a story.

shelter in place….

We are living through history and you can start photojournaling today! The whole world is closed or quarantined to some degree. This is truly a pandemic that will be talked about for generations.

I hope to print our images from this time in a photo book and pass it on to my son. And one day when he is telling his children and grandchildren about life during COVID-19, he will have pictures to share.

Here are some tips if you’d like to join:

  • You can use whatever camera you have available. (Phone, DSLR, Polaroid, etc.)

  • Whether you use a phone or upload your images to a Computer, use Google Photos to store them. In Google Photos you can create a special album to keep your images organized. You can also include a description if you’d like to add some context to your daily images.

  • Don’t stress if you do not capture an image each day. Everything feels strange right now. I even have days where I don’t want to do anything but eat and watch TV. Just document what you can.

  • If you are better at writing, maybe write something daily instead of taking pictures. Also, if you have children at home, encourage them to take pictures, draw or write as well.

Not sure what to take pictures of?

  • What are you doing each day?

-baking

-virtual school

-an essential worker now having to wear a mask

-shopping curbside

-taking walks

-celebrating birthdays

Each picture does not have to be a masterpiece, just a representation of what these days look like for you and your family.

If you have small children at home, there is no doubt they do something daily that you’ll want to capture and remember. BUT, if you have older children or no children, your images will be of what you did that day. And that’s okay!

sign of the times….

I am currently working through a yearly photo project over on Instagram and I post my daily pictures there. I’d love for you to join me and tag me if you do! I would love to cheer you on. We are all in this together! :)
