Our Favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe

With Covid having schools and work shut down, we are trying to find ways to keep ourselves busy. And today we are baking.

My son, Brody, has a sweet tooth like his father so he asked for some cookies. Great idea! I’ve got an easy sugar cookie recipe AND a huge container of cookie cutters. We’ve only ever used the Christmas ones because I typically only make these cookies during the holidays. Out of 101 cookie cutters, there were no St. Patrick’s Day cutters. NONE. So he just picked random shapes and some letters to spell his name. There is something about warm, home made cookies that just make you feel better, right?

Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 c. all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp. baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

  • 1 c. butter, softened

  • 1 1/2 c. white sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.

  2. Stir together the flour, baking soda and powder in a medium bowl.

  3. In a different medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla.

  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.

  5. Roll in to tsp. size balls or roll out for cookie cutters.

  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

You can add chocolate chips or candies. Sometimes we frost them once they cool, if we haven’t eaten them all warm from the oven. :)
